Eternal Life Lecture  (60 mins)

 

Mark Swinney, a lecturer from Placitas New Mexico, USA, gave an interesting and thoughtful talk on how to interpret ‘ETERNAL LIFE’. By looking at Biblical texts and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health), we learnt that by understanding to think about ourselves as God’s offspring and what this really means, can bring countless blessings.

Maya Evans in Afghanistan (1hr. 17 mins)

 

Peace Activist, Maya Evans travelled to Afghanistan to see conditions first hand. Her lecture given at the Friends Meeting House, Eastbourne, was both thought provoking and moving. She was the guest speaker at Eastbourne for Peace and Liberty held on Saturday, March 31st 2012. Eastbourne Live has recorded the talkin its entirety.

John Adams is an international speaker and practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing. He originally moved to New York City to pursue an acting career, studying with Lee Strasberg and Herbert Berghof. Adams was healed of a serious drug habit through his study of the Bible and Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This changed his life, bringing renewed commitment to his spiritual journey. He sold his businesses and in 1985 took up full-time work as a CS healing practitioner. (The talk was sponsored by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Eastbourne.) The programme has been cut into three parts to allow easier download times.

Tess Burrows, The South Pole Race

Tess Burrows was one of the competitors in last year’s South Pole Race, covering 426 miles to the magnetic pole. It is now just one hundred years since the great explorers, Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott sledged across the vast wastes of snow and ice. to be the first to get to this isolated spot. Tess was our guest speaker at the Leaf Hall Community Arts Centre, Eastbourne
on Saturday, October 9th 2010. This is a remarkable account of her adventure.

Omar Deghayes comes to Eastbourne

Ex-prisoner of Guantanamo Bay, Omar Deghayes, was released in December 2007. Since then as part of the Save Omar Campaign, he has been touring the UK, giving a graphic account of the suffering and torture that was the daily infliction at this US prison. Omar was invited by the Eastbourne for Peace and Liberty group to speak at Our Lady of Ransom church hall, on Saturday, 14th February 2009.

Battlefields without borders: Iraqis in crisis (28 mins)

A talk given by the US peace activist Kathy Kelly, at Our Lady of Ransom church in Eastbourne on Saturday, 17th November 2007. Legendary peace activist Kathy Kelly has visited Iraq 26 times and has lived in Baghdad during the 2003 ‘Shock and Awe’ bombardment and invasion. Kathy was also in Beirut during the Israeli bombing in 2006 and in Qana where the Palestinian children were massacred in a missile attack in 1996. She has recently lived among Iracqi refugees in Jordan and Syria. In 1988 she spent nine months in prison for planting corn on nuclear missile silo sites. www.vcnv.org

The Extraordinary George Musgrave  (43.26 mins)

The Musgrave museum stands in Seaside Road and is the centre for one of Eastbourne’s most extraordinary
and versatile artists. His work covers miniature statues to beautiful colour paintings, from following in the footsteps of St Paul and writing of his life, to a whole world of engraving, historical discovery and collecting  memorabilia. During the 1950s he appeared on radio and more recently on Channel 4. His father died at the front during the First World War and young George Musgrave was left to fend for himself, with his mother who had to eke out a living. Having no
toys to play with he quickly discovered how to create his own, later he was an athlete, a church minister, a novelist, and even to the age of 95 he continued to research his favourite subjects

The Law Against Peaceful Protest (27.52 mins)

In December 2005, Maya Anne Evans became the first person in the UK to be convicted for peaceful protest within 1km of Parliamentm under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005. On 14th January 2007, Maya spoke of her experiences and about the erosion of civil liberties in Britain and the war in Iraq at the Friend’s Meeting House, Eastbourne.
